On behalf of Sneinton Alchemy, the Sneinton Community Organisers are delighted to invite you to a conference.

Your Sneinton! Community Organising: Strengthening the Network

Friday 6th December 2013, 10 am – 4 pm

St Christopher’s Church Hall, Trent Rd, Sneinton. Nottingham

The conference will bring together community organisers (local & nationally), volunteers, local project leaders, community activists, essential services and providers of employment and training. An excellent opportunity for learning and networking, the event will be a catalyst for future collaboration for delegates who want to make a difference and share a vision for future society.

In the last 18 months the Community Organisers have listened to over a thousand residents, recruited over 80 community project leaders, and facilitated the start of 20 projects locally and across the city. The aim of the conference is to provide an opportunity for volunteer community organisers and local residents to share knowledge and vision, learn new skills and to network and to provide a great opportunity to network for service providers..

Topics on the day will include:

  • Community rights, Housing, Welfare and Debt advice, Employment and Training, Street law, Health and well-being
  • Sneinton's proposed Neighbourhood Plan (what is a neighbourhood plan?)
  • Short breakout workshops provide an introduction to subjects such as Creative Community Engagement, Storytelling (by award winning writer Gill Adams), ‘Funding your project and Tai Chi - Community Organising style and much more.
  • Inspirational speakers will describe how their service can support residents
  • Stands will exhibit essential useful information about new and existing projects and services
For groups and residents, it will stimulate collaboration and will support community cohesion. Come and see first-hand the work of the Community Organisers and meet the leaders who are heading up projects such as area pride schemes, community allotments, the Community Hub, community radio, youth mentoring, recording studio, community centres, Sneinton Festival and much more.

With the support of:

Locality, the Renewal Trust, Advice Nottingham, St Ann’s Advice Centre, The Pro Bono Society and many more, this will be an inspirational program in true Sneinton tradition!

This event is part of Locality’s “Go Deeper” training option which is offered to trainee community organisers nationally and all attending will receive a certificate of attendance.

To book your place:

Please complete the booking form attached as soon as possible stating your food and workshop preferences, as there are limited spaces available. There is a £10 fee for organisations wishing to exhibit - if this is a problem let us know and we will try our best to help.

I hope you be able to make this fantastic event and we look forward to seeing you on the day!
