Sneinton Dale- now and then

If you think traffic is bad on Sneinton Dale now, imagine a street half as wide...

I came across this 1955 view of the Dale on the Nottstalgia Forum, showing the 'notorious bottleneck' of Sneinton Dale. Below is the same view 58 years later:

The actual carriageway is not much wider than it was in 1955- but now there is space for trees and parking along both sides. Is it an improvement... and what should be done now?
