Did you know that St Anns had a Robin Hood connection? An event at Sneinton Market yesterday revealed the fascinating and largely forgotten history of the St Anns Well.
Costumed players including a crusader knight and The Hermit of the Well presented stories from the colourful history of the Well site. An exhibition, with paintings, historical photos and original texts revealed some of the site's colourful history, while local historian and author David Greenwood was on hand to discuss some of the mysteries that remain to be discovered. Visitors could become members of the Brotherhood of the Bow, a local tradition, with Robin Hood relics. The event was planned to draw attention to the fact that planning permission has been granted for housing to be built on the Well site - but there is a need for a thorough archaeological investigation before this happens. |
