Rail crossing plans revised following objections

posted 30 Aug 2012, 06:10 by Unknown user

Network Rail's plans to close the level crossing at Meadow Lane and install a footbridge have been revised following objections from local residents, community groups and cycling groups, including Sneinton Alchemy.

The new plans can be viewed and commented upon via the Nottingham City Council Planning website. Look for the green 'Comment on this application' link to leave your feedback for the planners.

The new designs do answer some of the criticism of the original design- for example the ramps no longer permanently block Meadow Lane, the route is clearer and more attractive when approaching from the South (see image above) and the bridge clearly 'goes somewhere' when approaching from the North. In addition, the bridge itself is less boxed-in and will offer views out to people crossing.

Some problems remain with the design but the revised plans are evidence that local community involvement in planning can help to improve our Sneinton environment.
