Earthmoving has begun at Trent Lane as the first step towards creating a new pedestrian and cycle bridge. The site currently has a level crossing which has long caused safety concerns. The new bridge design was subject to a public consultation at the Greenway Centre next door in January 2012 and has undergone some revisions in response to feedback from the public and the city council. The more controversial replacement of the Meadow Lane level crossing has also started, with trees being felled and the soon-to-be redundant signal box being offered to interested railway heritage groups. |
