Announcing an exciting new opportunity for young people in Sneinton! And a chance to get discounted driving lessons and win an iPad!

The National Citizen Service is a new summer scheme that Elevation Networks is offering to all 16-17 year olds (or 15-25 if they have learning difficulties or disabilities) in Nottingham, regardless of whether they are in full-time education or not. The scheme provides young people with the opportunity to become more engaged with their communities and become active responsible members of society. More importantly Elevations Networks focuses on providing traditionally underrepresented groups who have the capacity to excel but not the opportunity with that very opportunity!

NCS is a 4 week voluntary summer scheme. The programme includes:

  • 1 week away in the Peak District getting to know their fellow team mates and having fun outdoors, getting muddy on assault courses, abseiling, white water rafting, sleeping under the stars
  • 1 week residential in their local community taking part in creative challenges and working with local and national businesses to improve employability skills.
  • A further 2 weeks designing and delivering a local community event/initiative.

On completing the programme participants will have a graduation ceremony to recognise their achievements and hard work and they’ll get a signed certificate from the Prime Minister!

The whole programme is intended to build confidence, make friends, discover and enhance valuable skills and attitudes to help young people to see themselves as valuable assets to their own community. It will also enable them to shine when it comes to starting their career at either university or in full employment. It's £40 to sign up but bursaries are available for low-income families.

The scheme runs for 4 weeks over the summer with several start dates available in July and August.

For more information about Elevation Networks and the NCS scheme, please visit their website www.elevationnetworks.org/national-citizen-service-ncs/

Participants can sign up really easily online by going to www.ncn.ac.uk/ncs and selecting 'Elevation Networks'. As soon as they sign up, they will get 5 driving lessons for £50 (reduced from £100)! They are also running a competition to see who can sign up the most friends to NCS through Elevation Networks. The winner will receive either an iPad 2 or £350 to spend at the Victoria Centre!
