Hi everyone, I am a brand new, “Trainee Community
Organiser”, recently started in December....
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share with you the work I have done so far in our community. I am originally from a small town called Beverley in East Yorkshire, and moved to Nottingham in 2004 to study a degree in Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent University. During my studies I rented accommodation in the heart of Sneinton, and fell in love with the area...... What I love about Sneinton the most is the cultural diversity and community spirit; I feel comfortable, peaceful and at home here... The real concerns I have about the area is that, although I can see and feel a good community spirit, I also feel that people do not integrate enough; this worries me, however I do believe this will change in time. My vision for Sneinton is for everyone to support and work with each other to make a positive change, to see projects develop, and for everyone to be happy. My passion is “people”, and I am very focused upon helping empower people in our community to progress in life. I am also a qualified teacher in Fashion and Textile design. My philosophy is... “You can achieve if you believe, never lose sight of your dream.” The experience I have gained in the past 5 years working voluntarily for charities such as Inspire and Age Concern, and as a volunteer community organiser (also my teaching experience) has enabled me to help and support people from all age groups. I feel so very privileged to now have this opportunity to reach out to people in our community and be a part of making a positive change. This month has been extremely positive due to our team's development of the Sneinton Hub @ The Hermitage Community Centre every Saturday 11am-3pm. I feel so happy to also introduce 11 Volunteer Community Organisers who all have projects that are making a difference in our community. The projects include; creative writing classes; youth projects to increase self-esteem and integration through singing, dance and performance; also a support and advisory centre (which is still in the planning process).
